My favourite park is thickly wooded, shady and with an wide range of trees. We often go to Konradsbergsparken in Kungsholmen, with it's unique deciduous forest with specially important trees from ecological standpoint. It's perhaps the most beautiful city park in Sweden.
I sense a tree loving landscape architect behind the park or nature area. Togehter with a Nordic Flora we can spend hours figuring out what kind of trees or plants are growing here.
In the park are castle like buildings with a characteristic clock tower. Until -93 Konradsbergs mental hospital stayed in these buildings. And, all the way on to the eighties the park was surrounded by fences. This is probably why the parks fantastic trees are so untouched.
Today the Lärarhögskolan (school for teachers) are in the buildnings. There's also a preschool in the park. But even if many people pass the park daily, on their way to and from work or the adjacent Rålambshovsparken and so forth, not so many actually stay there for longer periods.
Summertime one can find individual sunbathers or someone sitting under a tree reading. And wintertime, when there's snow, some families come here for the great slope that suits small children who wants to sledge.
And early hours you can sometimes see practisers of various forms of tai chi in the park. It's really something when you see old people move slowly and yougsters using swords in beautiful motions. In the middle of a Swedish park.
But most oftenly you have the park more or less for yourself. Perhaps it's the noise from the nearby motor road. However, we've gotten used to it so much we don't even notice it anymore.
The park is in fact very calm, I've never seen any rowing or fussing. And almost no garbage dispate the nearness to the folksy Rålambshovsparken.
The park has been special for me a long while. Already when the mental hospital was in the park, I worked on hourly basis at a sheltered accomodation for mentally retarded. In one of the newly built desidential-blocks in commection with the park. So many promenades and picnics we made.
And many more to come. All pics in thid post are taken with my iPhone 3GS camera
